Not going back to work...

Right, DH and I have finally decided that going back to work is not going to be an option for me as I don't earn anywhere near enough to pay for childcare.

I also don't really want to go back if I'm honest.

We have 3 DCs aged 8, 3 and 8 mths. DH is self employed and works full time, so he can support us no problem.

My maternity leave finishes on 28th January, and they owe me holidays, which they will start no pay me for at end of January. HR had originally said that if I used up my holidays owed, then I would be due back at work on 14th March 2013.

Who do I tell that I am not going back? Is it direct to HR, or do I tell my line manager first? I've never had to do this before, and I'm just not sure of the protocols.

I'm thinking just bite the bloody bullet and ring hr, but I'm a bit scared I think!!

Anyone advise me please??

You have every right not going back to work.

In my company, leavers (of any kind, and leaving for your reason is as legitimate as any other) tend to have a chat with the HR Manager in charge of their dept, and then separately with their line manager. However, there's no right or wrong way to do it, and it depends on your relationship with your line manager to be honest.

Just make sure that you give them plenty of notice - if you're not looking for another job you don't have to worry from your pov, so tell them as soon as possible.

Remember - people leave jobs ALL the time, for a variety of reasons. It's business, it isn't personal, so just be calm and explain your reasoning clearly.

Thanks, I don't have a great relationship with my line manager and what makes it more difficult is that the lady who came into cover my maternity leave, is now pregnant and leaving in march to have her baby in April.

I know my leaving will cause a headache for the other staff, and I have posted about this before, but in all honestly, I cannot fulfil all areas of my contract now as I cannot do on call duties, so i am expecting to be uninvited from the (late) works Xmas do! But hey ho!!!

:)
