Getting disheartened by the job search

I'm getting desperate. I need to find a job soon. Almost all the job descriptions for positions in my field are for full-time (mostly manager) jobs with X years experience. Is it crazy to send applications in asking for a part-time (non-manager) position in the department? Will I totally put people off because it's clear I want part-time because I have young children.

I didn't think my cv/letters were so bad, but I'm not even getting invites to interviews. Any rejections are along the lines of we found a better candidate and there is no feedback. Even if I call and ask I either get HR and the standard "I was told by X to write you a letter and I just wanted to say something nice" or "you had a great dossier, but don't have experience".

At what point do I start applying for anything and everything outside of my field (potentially destroying my chances of ever getting a job in it)? If I don't find a job soon we will have to take the children out of nursery and I'll have no chance of finding anything because I'll have no childcare. I'm not cut out to be a SAHM. Is it so impossible to work part time? I've even been rejected because "we don't think you should be working whilst you have young children." can you tell I'm not in the UK?

What are the tricks for spontaneous applications? How do I get an interview?

What have you got to lose by sending in CV to all possible employers (named contacts if possible, not just generic HR) & asking if you can take on a part-time role, maybe in a supply or support/deputy way?

I am feeling similarly disheartened! Emailed my old boss asking if he would keep me in mind if any PT roles came up; he didn't even reply. This is only weeks after he sent me a Xmas card so not like he actively hates me or some such. :( I found a FT job today that I think would be less demanding than my old work, so actually just 37 hours/week not 50+ like my old job. Spent hours putting together that application but reality is someone else will probably have better match for what they are seeking (poo).

It's so miserable isn't it. My old boss has no openings at the moment because they're merging some departments and then splitting off into a whole new unit. He has said he will let me know if anything becomes free, but it won't be until Feb/March time.

I seem to spend hours putting together applications (added complication is that it's all in a foreign language) but never get anywhere. I'm just utterly fed up. Hope you get a favourable answer form them. I wouldn't mind so much if I got an interview and then rejected, but I never even get that far.
