I accepted a new job yesterday which is full-time . We have 2 dc age 6 and 2 . I have only worked p/t since my dd(6) was a 11mths old and since march 2012 I have been SAHM. So this will be big change for us . I am worried how we will manage picking up and collecting (I will have to do this ) , managing the household chores etc . Anyone got any experiences that they can share to help make the change go smoother !! ? Thanks

Get help. Cleaner, au pair/great childminder, someone to do your ironing. Meal plan and shop online in the evening.your weekends are too precious to spend on domestic stuff (unless you are stony broke of course)

Thanks . Cleaner and paying someone to do ironing will definitely help me . I think I need to get super organised !!

an au pair is a great help. and if you have a spare room they can be really handy- 25-30 hours a week of hassle-free time to get yourself sorted out. even if they dont stay for a year- for maybe 3 months as a short term help, it's really great. plus if you go through agencies then they sort out his/her side of things- things like medical checks, police reports, how much experience they have with children. a site my friend found her au pair on is au.pair.and.family.co.uk she has had her au pair- fab german girl, pretty good spoken English, very social and great with the kids- for about a month and a half. Had a hiccup at the start- but it was mostly down to communication error and the agency stepped in to sort it.
look into the rules- most solo au pairs dont seem to have any solid expectations, which I think can result in some bad experiences all round. Check out things like BAPAA- a trade association for au pairs to get a solid understanding before you commit to it. :)
congrat for the new job!
