Hi. I don't work on a Wednesday. This year our New Year holiday was 1st and 2nd Jan. Tues was the 1st and 2nd was the Wed.
All the other people at work got the Tues and Wed. I really only got one day's holiday as I am off on a Wed.
Should I get a day in lieu of this then? I'm confused!
I have asked my boss although she herself wasn't sure and is to get back to me.
We are a small dental practice and have no contracts. I know, silly. There is another member of staff who has a Thur and Fri off. I seem to remember one year she took a day off in lieu as a Christmas and New Year hol fell on her day off. But our boss had only taken over the practice then and I don't think was sure of the workings of holiday entitlement then.
Has anyone else experienced this situation?
Thanks for your help.

You get public hols in lieu. I work 2.5 days, so I get 6 public hols instead of 12. I work on a Monday and Friday, so in effect, I have to use some of my annual leave, because my six days don't cover all the Mondays and Fridays that the office is closed.

In reality, I can work on a non-work day instead, because I have a flexible boss. How many days/hours do you work, compared to the full timers?

I didn't mean in lieu - I meant pro rata. Sorry - my brain has atrophied. I've been off work too long.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
I work 4 days and the full time girls are 5 days.

Well you'd get 4/5 of public holidays. If you get Fair Friday and Monday, and Sept Weekend fri and mon, there's usually 11 or 12. If you're part time, they often added to your overall holiday allowance.

Easiest way is to look at totals. Add up the total number of paid days off your FT colleagues will get this year, normal holiday plus bank holidays.

Now add up the total you will get this year, bearing in mind which bank holidays will fall on your normal working days.

If your grand total is 4/5 theirs, you are fine.

If your grand total is less than 4/5 theirs, your employer should give you an additional day off.

If your grand total is more than 4/5 theirs, keep quiet as your employer should technically reduce your holiday entitlement to compensate. Grin
