Is it a waste of time?

Sending thank you letters after interviews - is it a waste of time? I have done this a few times and heard nothing back. Does it look desperate or are recruiters just too damned rude to acknowledge anything these days? I know recruiters are busy but it takes seconds to acknowledge a 'thank you'. Do they not consider the time and effort of a potential employee and why do they state that they will get back to you by a certain date and then don't bother? What is the point of that? Does a thank you letter put them off?

Hmm, I didn't explain that very well. I am just so fed up at the mo with job hunting, going to interviews, getting promises of they will be in touch and they just don't bother. I find it frustrating when after writing a thank you letter I hear zilch back, not even a rejection letter.

I wouldn't send a thank you to an interviewer. I'd contact them after 2 or 3 weeks or whatever time frame they said they'd get back to me if they hadn't contacted me. I do think it's very poor of companies not to tell people they've interviewed (as there's only a handful of them) if they are not successful. I'd also ask for feedback, though accept that they might not give me any or tell me something so vague as to be unhelpful.
