writers please help

My son has written a 50000(so far) word book and I have been shocked by how good it is (we are both very picky and critical of books and its part of why i'm so shocked) and he wants to look at getting it published. I have no idea where he would have to start and would really like to help him.
The book is a fantasy fiction slightly more for a14yr old to adult readership as it has some strong scenes. He already has ideas for more books based in the world he has created
How would he start going about geetting started and how can I help him suceed as he is really passionate about this and ok so he's 18 but he has aspergers tendencies so needs me to help a bit.
Any advice appreciated

Start by getting the latest Writers' and Artists' Yearbook, which has loads of advice, and tells you what all the agents and publishers specialise in, so you can choose the right ones to approach (the book will tell you how). Good luck to him!

Yes, agree with Begonia - buy that book and look together at it carefully before approaching an agent, so that you are sending the right material to the right agent.

Just a note that you may have to prepare your son for some rejections. It's a difficult market right now and at least some rejection is almost inevitable, no matter how good the writing is. Again, the Writers' and Artists' Handbook will explain more about the processes of submitting.

I have told him that he will have to deal with rejections and he understands as we've talked about how a lot of the big authors have had this even.
He is wonderful(when he's not being your typical run of the mill know it all 18yr old ;) )

Could he maybe do a novella based on the book, self-publish on Amazon and market it himself? If he can show a few thousand Kindle sales it might make publishers look at the book with more interest.

Do you know any writers? One of the best things you can do is get a published author to read it and then if it's good they may tell you who their agent is. You then have the option of sending it to an agent and because of the connection they are more likely to read it and not dumping it straight into the slush pile.

Most of all hone the first few pages. If pages 1-3 aren't zingers you're dead in the water before you start.
