Issues with lighting

Had a new girl start a few months ago. Just us two sharing an office.

The office is "L" shaped and has three ceiling florescent lights, one of which is opposite my desk and we disconnected it as it was causing glare and making it difficult for me to see my PC.

New girl has decided that she wants the light on - even though it is not over her desk and consequently it is causing me issues with headaches.

Boss has told me to turn my desk around so that it faces the wall. Not a very nice outlook, plus it was like that originally and I was getting back ache twisting round to see people.

Can't really see anyway forward.

Any ideas?

Have you tried one of those anti-glare screens? Or moving your monitor angle?

Swap desks or move the desk within the space?

You're very welcome, OP, happy to help. Hmm

Thanks for the links. The problem is not glare on the screen, it is from my glasses. I have quite a high prescription and even with the anti-glare coating, there is still some issues with over head lights. I have to wear a wide brimmed hat in bright sunlight.

I might try moving my desk but it means that I will be facing a wall and not the room which is not exactly motivational.

Leverette - I would love a work station assessment - however even though I have been there three years, I still don't have a contract. The boss is not exactly compliant.

A contract can often be verbal and doesn't have to be written it is only the written particulars that have to be written and that has to be given within 12 weeks of starting

Work Station Risk Assessments are a legal obligation - if you had time off sick due to headaches and migraines etc then the company would be liable. You could always contact HSE and explain the situation to them - there has to be written H&S policy for any company with more than 5 employee's
