went really good as it was the exact same type of job where i used to work (call centre) BUT they have no breaks apart dinner break - i know its against the law NOT to have breaks apart from dinner..

where i used to work i hated it till the breaks were introduced (After 4 yrs me working there)...so i can be working solid for 4 hours on computer without having a 15 mins break in morning and afternoon

Dp doesnt want me to take it as i was very moody and knackered without the breaks.

Have you told them that you KNOW they are breaching health and safety law ? TBH, I'd avoid it.

fuzzywuzzy · 30/03/2006 11:37

I think the law is breaks every four hours, so if lunch breaks the day up into two lots of four hours they are allowed to do this (I think).

Doesn't sound very comfortable for me, would agree with your dh. How do you feel about it???

mazzystar · 30/03/2006 11:38

glad it went well.

do you fancy the job ( and haven't you got some other things in the pipeline to consider as well?)

i think life is too short to be moody and knackered......

biglips · 30/03/2006 11:40

well im just thinking of going back to work for a year till my Dp is running his business succesfully (as he is taking over his boss's business as boss is retiring)...

nomb - i couldnt tell them about it as it was a interview

i think by law its every 1 hour and 15 mins you supposed to have a 15 mins break

I looked into this recently, and found that the law was that there must be a break after 6 hours (and the break must be at least 20 minutes).

I currently work 6 hours with no breaks, but my job isn't tied to a computer so I can walk about a bit - it is tiring though (I do it so I can get home in time to pick up ds from school), and I wouldn't recommend it unless there are really big benefits in other ways.

biglips · 30/03/2006 11:42

ill be happy to take it on (may not get the job but poss i may get it) but its just the breaks

as it my last job i used to complain of why the smokers are allowed to have breaks where the non-smokers arent

i was thinking ill just go for it and put up with it for a year

Have a wee look here \link{http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/94-1.htm\ADVICE REGARDING CALL CENTRE WORKING PRACTICES}

But if you don't have a good feeling about this position, I don't think it's worth taking it. Did you mention the references BYW?

the law is now actually changed, yo only have to have 15 mins for every 6 hour (and 20 mins for an active job)!!!Shock
