My 11 month old is doing really well at his CM but I still worry that he needs more 'mummy' time. I work FT. I asked for PT but was refused. My job is specialist and it's not possible to get a PT one from scratch. I'd have to compromise my career progression to spend more time with him. My MIL thinks I should stick with my career. She'd interfere if I chose to give up. My own mum thinks I should be a SAHM because she believes it makes children more secure. My profession is creative so there is a possibility I could work self-employed but this is a risk. Just sounding out. Sorry. I find it therapeutic to write down my feelings on this site.

It doesn't matter what your mum or MIL think, do what feels right for you and your family. I gave up work after having DS despite family (other than DH) telling me it was a mistake. It has been the best thing for me, DH and DS, and I wouldn't change it! That doesn't mean it's right for you, but if it is then its worth looking at surely? If you working full time is the best thing for you and your family, then no one else can tell you to change that!

Thank you Rock Chick. I agree that it's important to do what's best for your family, and, at the moment, I don't think we could survive living where we do without me working. We'd have no money, but maybe in the future, we could move to a less expensive area and have a cheaper house so I could potentially give up work and do my own business from home. I'd love to be at home when my son goes to school and maybe, by then, we'd have another one.
