Maternity pay question, have I done my maths right?

I'm really confused about my maternity pay. I'm only entitled to the statuatory pay (no extras from work), so 6 weeks at 90% and then a futher 33 weeks at the standard rate (39 weeks total). I started my maternity leave the week starting the 2nd January, so by my calculations I should stop receiving payments from the start of the 40th week; which would be the week starting the 1st October. My work seems to have figured it out as one week shorted (or so it seems looking at my pay this morning).

Technically I had Ds before I started my maternity leave, as I was using up two weeks of annual leave until the very end of December (finished on the 16th DEcember, two weeks A/L, so should have started mat pay on the 2nd Jan, but DS showed up a bit early on the 25th December), but surely that shouldn't matter?

Have just spent half an hour counting weeks on a calender and it's made my brain ache. It's onle 1 week's mat pay (£135), but I could really do with the money this month!

Mat pay starts automatically from the week your baby was born. So you lost a weeks A/L and work have correctly calculated your pay from that date. Sorry I know it's not what you wanted to hear!

I think that giving birth automatically triggers the start of your maternity leave, so that would account for the 'missing' week?

On the plus side, does this mean you have more annual leave left to take?

Gah! So annoying. I don't think I can lose the week's AL though? As I'm still accruing it while on mat leave? Argh, will have to call my boss.

SMP starts the day after your baby is born if you haven't started it already by that date, so yours will have started on Boxing Day.

Any reason they won't allow you to carry over the few extra days holiday you missed?

They're usually really nice, so I'll ask if I can just tag it on; I'm taking a couple of weeks A/L anyway as I've accrued so much since March that I will never find time to use up otherwise.
