Back to work wardrobe

A trivial question. I'm going back to work in six weeks (semi smart office code) and a trying to work out what I'll wear.

My shoes are knackered, I don't have an unbroken handbag, and I've worn the same pair of jeans for 12 months, so let's just say there is work to be done. I'm back at below prepreg weight, but the breastfeeding norks! I'd look like a barmaid if I went back in some of my old clothes, not ideal for my middle management job. What's more, they are likely to swell like watermelons at the start as son currently breastfeeds loads (he's nearly 1 so don't want to express, want to get him drink slightly less milk).

I'm broke (normally OK but currently due to complete on a house round the time I go back - ideal!) and I'm also planning on trying for another baby next year so I don't want to break the bank on a huge wardrobe. I'm buying a doer upper house so clothes need to be low maintenance cos I'm going to be ludicrously busy.

Anyone bought things in similar circs? Any tips? I've picked up a couple of second hand loose non iron shirt tops that look pretty, you don't have to iron, and should hide the bosoms, but that's all.

Any ideas gratefully accepted. Reading back this post, I sound like a RIGHT loser ;)

I'm going back in 1 week and have promised myself some back to work clothes, but still not had time to shop. Our dress code sounds similar to yours and I'm planning to get:
2 pairs of black gap jeans, one skinny, one boot cut,
1 pair Clarks wedges in tan
3 smartish tops - not sure where from yet.

My hairdresser told me I need a long line necklace, so will look for one of those too! I'm also going to get a fitting for a new bra or 2 as I stopped BF 6 weeks ago things seem to have settled (quite literally) now...

Go to matalan! Pick up a few bits from their workwear section here like a dress for £14 (good norkage coverage) - they can be worn with a long sleeved top under if you aren't keen on sleeveless.

Their trousers start from £6 and although they aren't amazing, they are fine for starting out with and can be replaced once your finances are a bit happier. Wear with either a shirt, jersey top or jumper.

Stick with things as basic as possible, and gradually build up what you have got.

Thank you! Matalan and gap jeans both sound v good ideas - eg not too pricey, and forgiving.

I've been looking at ebay too, but it can still be bit hard to tell what things will actually look like can't it? Though I'm sold on the idea of a decent second hand handbag.

I find eBay a bit of a false economy for clothes unless it's items which were fairly pricey new, and you are 100% sure on the sizing - I've been stung too many times where something isn't a very good fit on me and I wouldn't have bought it in a shop. It's fantastic for accessories though!
