DH being made redundant

Can I ask for some advice please, as I am somewhat in shock but at the same time need to start thinking straight as things are moving fast. Today DH was told that he was at risk of redundancy as there was increasingly less workload for his position. He was told than an official meeting to discuss this is scheduled for tomorrow (it seems that this will set the consutation process rolling).
DH is the only person in the company in this position and has been consistently busy, with seasonal highs and lows. In the last few months he has noticed that part of his job is being outsourced behind his back. It would therefore seem that the company are using redundancy as an excuse to get rid of him and achieve the same objectives either through external suppliers or perhaps in the long term by employing someone else (DH's salary is at the extreme upper end for his sector).
What are DH's options (if any)? Is it normal that consultation is starting within a day of notification of being put at risk (clearly this does not allow us to do much homework in anticipation of what is coming)?
Still partly in shock and partly in denial and also very Sad...

Don't know, but I thought if a job was being outsource they had to be Tuped over, and a much cheaper option for the current employer than redundancy? hopefully someone else will be more helpful than me.

I know TUPE applies if you are a public sector worker but I am unclear about what happens in the private sector (where DH works)...
