Hi

I work for a fairly small firm where the current HR/Office MAnager is going on maternity leave in the next few months.

I've been asked to step up and cover her whilst she is away (currently her Admin Support)

Obviously I am pleased about this and looking forward to the opportunity but I have no formal HR training. Is there a good guide book or resource available for me to read beforehand so if an issue arises at least I'll have a ln idea how to handle it?

If hr manager doesn't return then I will be put on all courses etc but in the meantime I think I would feel better if I had a book to read.

Any recommendations?

I think it would probably be showing great initiative to speak to your employer and see if they can recommend anything.

We have great free resources available through our Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses - if your employer isn't already a member of either of these, then it might be worth signing up, as you get a lot of other support and it can be good for marketing & networking too.
