Is it poor form or just plain sensible to ask this?

There is a job advertised that I would (probably) have a very good chance of getting for various reasons.

But the job has less holiday entitlement than I have now. Coupled with a longer commute and the position is full time versus my pt position it has a few drawbacks. I am fairly confident they would welcome my application but I doubt I would take it if the holiday couldn't be negotiated.

DH thinks I should ring first and tell them the situation honestly now and save me/them the hassle of applying, having an interview with a presentation etc but I think it is very pushy and would put them off but equally I don't want to waste mine or their time as it really would be a dealbreaker for me. Any advice?

That is what I think. But the job is quite specialised and if I rang they would know me professionally. Is this a point they would negotiate on if I got the job? I really don't have the time or the inclination applying for it if it isn't. I don't mean to sound so harsh but it would be a waste of everyones time to pretend otherwise.

Definitely negotiate pay and terms after they have decided they want you! Otherwise, what's in it for them?

Ok thanks. Their entitlement is below the industry norm so I will have a serious think about whether to apply or not.

Definitely apply first. If the holiday isn't negotiable they may offer you extra money or other perks, which would mean if you have young children you could use dependents leave to take extra time off if necessary.

Agree that you apply first and that you may be able to use parental leave to bolster your holiday if it isn't financially disastrous. Go for it!
