Exit interview protocol - help please. I think I'm being shafted!

To give a bit of background, I left my old job recently, but apparently HR "lost" my paperwork and could therefore not set the wheels in motion to organise leaving formalities such as an exit interview on time. The department were apparently not so disorganised when it came to closing down my email, or removing me from the website, which they did before midnight on the day I left Hmm.

I have been offered an "exit interview" after I have left with my department manager. However, I would rather have my exit interview with someone independent from my old department. Is it normal to have the interview with someone from the management team of the old department?

It is a long time since I left my last job (which was not in the UK), so I am not sure what the standard protocol is, but I thought I had a right to an exit interview with HR?

I ask as the reason I am leaving is due to long term bullying (previously documented by my department, HR and occupational health) and I would like that my old department don't "lose" my exit interview notes as a result since the offenders are still senior within the department.

Sorry that is so long!

Any constructive help is gratefully received!

There is no legislation around exit interviews so you do not have any legal rights. Companies are not required to conduct them at all and practises as to who conducts the interview and its content vary from company to company. They can't force you to attend. You could tell them that you would be happy to attend an exit interview with HR but not with your department manager.

Ah, Ok, thanks. That clarifies things. In my last (non-UK) job, the expectation was to have the exit interview with HR.

I would like an exit interview, but not with my department manager, however, that seemed to be all they were offering.
