Right her goes will try and keep it short.

I have 4 DC and have been a SAHM for 8+ years. DC are 8, 6, 4 and 2, DS will start nursery next year so am thinking if something to do for me. My degree is science based and I had to move away for work but have since moved back so not an option to go back into that field.

DH works long hours with a long commute a,though can work one day a week from home, no family at all to help put with childcare.

I've always wanted to teach but to do this would be a FT intensive PGDE course quite a commute away, then a years probation full time then the chances of finding a job are slim. Temping wouldn't work as I could get childcare at the drop of a hat if needed.

The other thing I would like to do is nursery teacher, our local college does a course 2 years full time but in reality I think 3-4 days a week. If I to a job at the end not as well paid as teacher either.

Childcare wise mornings would be ok I could drop older 3 at school at 830 for breakfast club, the local college has a nursery attached, DS could go there 3 full time days. DH could do the nursery/school runs one day a week. That leaves 2 days after school, I don't think my course would be until 5 but I would still need someone to collect the girls, the after school bus/club is £7 per day per cold no matter if they are there 20 mins or 2 hours.

I want to do something, go back to work but is it just too impractical, am I kidding myself?

Do you have friends you could swap child care with? I have my friend's two to play after school one day a week and she has mine another day a week in exchange which works pretty well.

If I had two that might work but no one I know has room in their car for 3 extra plus an extra 3 is a big ask!

Volunteering is also a very good way to boost your experience, your CV and your confidence. There are lots of opportunities locally from admin. to school governors to name a couple. You could do something you have done before or try something new. Roles are availabel for different times of the day or week. To find out more in Buckinghamshire please visit www.communityimpactbucks.org.uk/pages/get-involved.html. If you live outside that county visit the Volunteer England website to see what's available near you.
