Graduate jobs and babies

I am thinking quite far ahead. I'm due to start an undergraduate degree in a few weeks time. To gain the professional qualification I aspire I need to get a 2 yrs graduate job placement in the relevant industry.

I've got one Ds I although I don't feel like having another one yet, and can't see myself coping with university while pregnant I wonder how it works if I needed to go on maternity leave during the graduate scheme. For example if at the end of the first year on the job I had to take a year leave, could I just go back to complete the other year as on a normal job? And what impact would it have on my career?

I'm on my mid 30's looking for a career change, so I what to move up the ladder fast to make up for lost time, but my biological clock will be ticking fast by the time I finish my degree as well.

Posting on my phone and can't read most I wrote before posting, do I hope this makes sense and sorry about the grammar.

depends on the sector - is it law? - and the company I would imagine

Not law. Surveying.

No experience, chilled, but it sounds like you are aiming to pack an awful lot into the next 2 years. Good luck

I mean 5 years. Perhaps you will be able to talk to the tutors about it once you have started your course. They will be able to advise you from their experience when might be the best time for a year out.

Chilled I'm not a surveyor, I'm an accountant, but there was a girl on my graduate scheme who had a baby and took 9 months off - her training contract was extended by the 9 months so she qualified later. I would imagine that in your case it might be similar. Do you know any qualified surveyors you could ask about it? Perhaps one of your lecturers once you start your course?

I did mine in a bank so don't know about surveying, but there once you'd started on the graduate scheme you were a full-time employee like anyone else, with the same rights to take maternity leave.

I think it would be easier to do it whilst at uni rather than in a job. At your age I wouldn't wait.
