Any one a trainee/probation officer? thinking of applying, advice!

I've always been interested in this area, I thought about going back to uni to do a criminology degree. Now the national probation service has advertised for trainee posts.
I'm going to phone for the application today. Can anyone give advice on what I need to get the job, what's involved etc..
much appreciated.

no advice but i also saw the advert and thought my dh may suit it - however the job is poorly paid imo. very poorly paid. but then the money isn't everything is it.

good luck in getting some messages fromsomeone more constructive than i have been!

good luck on whatever you decide

My dad was one, loved it. Um, that's not very useful is it but a good recommendation at least.

Best advice I can give is to ring to speak to someone at the consortium advertising the posts and get advice, or ring your local head office and speak to someone in Training or Human Resources.

Our local area has a sort of briefing - if there's one in your area, try to attend and speak to anyone you can there - current trainees, newly-qualified officers, PDAs and HR staff. Consortium or local HR team would have details if there is one.

Custardo - do you think the job is poorly paid whilst training, or once qualified?

(just curious)

Tortington · 15/03/2006 23:52

both, i cant remember the figures exactly but it was around 18k qualified.

that dunt seem much to me for that kind of job.

ma2cra · 16/03/2006 08:30

It's more than that these days.

ma2cra · 16/03/2006 09:03

It's £14-15,000 ish for trainee, then £20,000+ once qualified.
