Hi All,

Im daniella i have 10 month old and im still suffering with postnatal depression been to docs they just keep upping my dose and telling me go back to work.

so im ringing around jobs with lil one screaming in back round, im going into being a care assistant as i did an apprenticeship and got my nvq and btech level 2 and they all keep asking why i have been off for 13 months and i say because of having a child and they ask for a reference for last year and i have to remind them that iv been a mum for that time and they still want one what do they want me to do get a reference of my daughter?

plus my mother in law kicked off the other weekend badly and my daughter is never going near her agoin so now i have to find childcare on top of everything else i feel like im going to explode.

i am on jsa and have to sign on every week and take poor daughter with me and sign on upstairs so have to take lil one out of pushchair and leave pushchair down stairs and carry all bags and baby up 3 flights of stairas and to top it off someone tried to walk off with my pushchair the other week aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

when will this shit stop im going crazy

sorry for the rant just needed to get it out cuz driving me insane

Hi there, I'm so sorry everything is so difficult for you right now and i hope it gets better soon.

On the reference issue, I have also had this issue with some recent job applications as i've not worked for 4 years having my children. I'm also a professional recruiter though so I can understand why these seemingly questions get asked of everyone. What i've done is find a suitable personal reference, somone who can vouch for what I have been doing. In my case it's a friend who had known me a long time and is also a solicitor, so she has some credibilty from her job. You might be able think of a friend, or a family friend in a responsible position or if you can't think of anyone like that, someone like your health visitor if you've had a fair bit of contact with her, or your GP or someone like that? Have a think and someone might come to mind.

I've written on job applications something like "I've not been working in the last Xmonths/years as I took a break from my career to have my children so I cannot offer a profesional reference for this time, but the following referee is a and has known me for X years and can verify the reasons for this gap in my employment"

I hope thats helpful :)

Maybe try a different doctor? Does not sound very sympathetic. I find that stress affects my depression and makes it a lot worse. Sounds like you have lots of stress at the moment. Sorry you are struggling.
