Hi all, I am a soon to be dad and this has opened a whole new thinking style about work and how it effects both me and my wife! With this in mind and realising I have two employees that are going on maternity soon, I'm considering opening a couple or return to work positions to cover those maternity posts. Now in my mind I thought the best hours would be from 11am to 3pm and the shifts would be agreed month by month on a rota basis. But then it occurred to me that all this was just my perspective and really I need you to tell me what would be best, you?re the experts as you?re the mums!! Please let me know what you think.

Thank you in advance.

I think it depends on your situation.

A few examples...

If dc are at school, 10-2 is perfect.

If dc are at child care then one or two full days might be better as a shift such as 11-3 would mean morning and afternoon fees must be paid.

If DH is a shift worker it might be different each week.

Just some thoughts.

10 to 2 will probably be more popular, but as has been said it will depend on the situation

you would probably get the most applicants if you say x hours a week - and agree a mutually suitable times
a good place to advertise - I am not contected with them in any way I promise - might be timewise jobs which is an ofshoot of women like us - and they may be able to advise on what to put in an advert -or mumsnet has a jobs board

My daughter is almost 2 and a half, and I work term time only in education. Best for me at this stage, would actually be 3 full days a week all year (or term time only if the earning potential were there). When she goes to preschool full time (she's going to a pre-prep) after her 3rd birthday next April, best for me would be 9-3 any amount of days a week, term time only. Some 3 year olds will go to full time nursery until they go to school at 5. It really just depends on a family's circumstances, and I think families themselves have to compromise something to make allowances in another area.

I think your most popular offer would be something like 930-230.

Thank you all for your input/feedback I think what I will do is like has been said here by An0therName and advertise for X amount of hours a week and then i can see what they would like on an idividual basis.
I think on here the advertising would be good and like it had been said on timewise jobs. From what you have all ben saying peoples working hours are all different depending on there situation and how many children they have and at what age.

I relly do appreciate all your comments
