dumb question about metatags and keywords

Am nearly there with my return to work (insert fanfare here)

Got the equipment, got a business plan, got the loan, got someone to write me up a fabby website...

he said "I'll do the metatags and keywords for you, but you might be better to do it yourself and get the words clients will most likely search for"

I said "oh, that's not a problem"

he showed me how to do it - and it's taken me two months, and an "SEO for dummies" book to figure it out.

Here's the stooopid question:

Do I have to make every keyword bold in the blurb? It looks crap - but, if I don't, then will the weirdo spider things find them?

No, bold is not relevant, its just a formatting issue.
Have a look at your website in HTML mode and see what WORDS are there ...
and actually I've found that the google spiders look at the body as much as the header nowadays

Yeah, what TP2 said. Bolding does nothing, really, except catch the eye of whomever is searching. The spiders look at words, not formatting.

Also, piece of advice, unsolicited, so worth what you're paying for Grin...don't do more than 10 keywords, and that's a lot. If you can think of 10, then you're business might be too broad. If you can only think of 5 that really fit? Then only use 5.

Thanks, guys.

I thought that keywords should include any typos/slang terms etc - that's going to be way more than 10!

If you have too many keywords do the SEO's spidey senses tingle that you might not be a real person?

It's not that, it's just your keywords should be 'tight' enough to really target the people who might look for you.

I have never heard that you should keyword every typo. Hmm That would be millions as anything can be a typo!

nankypeevy · 07/08/2012 16:00

That makes a whole lot more sense! Thanks for taking the time to respond...am away to scowl at the idiot guide for idiots!

I have heard about using typos - say for example you sell lovely paper & envelopes - it would be well worth your while including stationary as well as stationery.

Otoh, you cannot account for each and every moron out there! Wink So whilst I (toot toot!) think my above example is great, don't get too caught up on it as Google already searches for "did you mean?" type spellings/typos.

Tee2072 · 08/08/2012 06:54

I'll give you that one Dolomites, it is a very good example.

But wouldn't also keyword sationary and sationery and staionary etc etc. Because people can type badly in a million ways!
