Hand holding/moral support for telling new job that I am pregnant...

Just asking for a gentle response and support as this week I really really have to tell my new employers that I am pregnant. I don't start work til 10th September and by then I will be 19 weeks Blush.

By way of background, I already have a DD who is 2.2yo. The job is a training scheme with a government department that lasts 4 years, followed by guaranteed good permanent job provided I pass the exams - so the expectation is that I will be there long term, plus it's a huge public sector organisation, not a one man band who will be financially crippled by my position. From my understanding, the first 2 years of training is pretty much academic work and study, with a few work tasks that are more designed to help your learning rather than contribute to the work of the team (if that makes sense) so hopefully it won't leave a big pile of work for someone else to pick up.

My intention is to work for this organisation til retirement - it's something I really do want to do and it will be flexible hours, lots of scope for part time work (once qualified) and variety - it's as close to my dream job as I am ever going to find in the real world. The recruitment process took 7 months in total and I fell pregnant 2 weeks after being offered the position.

Has anyone else found themselves in this position ever? Please tell me it will be okay...

Oh, I do hope this works out for you.

You must tell them, though. (And I speak as someone who has employed a person who was pregnant when she started, and didn't tell me.)

Stop justifying yourself. You are a woman, and pregnancy is just a part of womanhood. The fact that you are pregnant doesn't mean you deserve employment any less than anyone else. I would be matter of fact about it and wouldn't make apologies, either by what you say or your manner.

I know Sad. I will tell them this coming week. I had my scan on Tuesday just gone and have been waiting for nuchal test results, but really I'm just procrastinating and must get on with it.

I suppose even if they think I am a flake, they won't be able to say so.

You're not a flake. Good luck!
