Please does anybody know what its like to work at McDonalds. My daughter has just been offered a job with them but is currently working at poundstretchers. she applied to McDonalds for more hours, but has since been given extra at pound stretchers. Also she is going to uni next year and we figure it may be easier to get a McDonalds transfer to her uni town. She is 17 ,please does anyone know the rates of pay also for McDonalds, she really cant decide. Any advice would be welcome ,thankyou x

McDonalds run on a franchise basis so getting a job in one branch won't necessarily mean a transfer to another one. If she's sharp and takes it seriously, they do actually offer pretty good management training and of course it's good for flexible hours.

Worked there thoughut my a levels and really enjoyed it actually, mostly because of the social life, and I worked in a few branches and enjoyed all of them.

I actually went on to do a management course with them, which for me was where the enjoyment stopped. Crappy shifts meant no more social life outside of the McDonalds lot, long hours, managing teens who mostly don't give a toss about the job, shitty bosses who don't give a toss about you having no life, moved away to a town where I knew noone and was v depressed... could go on, but won't.

But for part time work, ESP if she is under 18 and therefore doesn't have to do the 'close' (which is a shift that can last til 2or 3 am depending on the store,) then it was a positive experience for me!

I worked at McDonalds when I was at Uni (years ago), the best thing was getting a free meal each shift. As a student they used to put me on Saturday afternoons and late shifts. I think they used to put taxis on for those finishing at stupid o'clock, but this was a loooong time ago.

my DH worked for them a while ago - they were pretty good to work for

My nephew, 17, works ft for them atm and is enjoying it (mostly) - when we were helping him with a CV for a job you realised just how many personal skills it includes too. If they hit various targets they get extra pay per hour which he says isn't hard if you put your mind to it

I worked full time for McDs 14 years ago and looking back it was the best of the random jobs I did in my teens/early twenties - mainly because it was with a bunch of other young people and we all really got on, the management was good and they do try to motivate you in their own way with their "stars" etc so it doesn't feel mundane all the time. Also standards of hygiene surprisingly high! I worked really really hard but that was because I did the "close" as mentioned above at least 3 times a week which was a killer and involved getting very greasy!
I think that once you have worked in a McDs it would be easier to get a job in another even if it is a franchise.
One warning - I developed irritable bowel syndrome after eating the free meal 5 times a week.
