School Administrator application - what to write to get an interview

I would very much like to work within a school, as I've always been interested in education and it would fit in really well with summer holidays! I have been a SAHM for about 6 years and am not quite sure what to put on my application. The jobs are through the council and I get the impression that they tick things off, i.e. if you haven't said something in their terminology, it doesn't get ticked. I applied for a post a few months back and didn't manage to get an interview and when I called for feedback was told that there was about 90 applications! (I don't know if this is normal). And I hadn't mentioned the specific phrase 'face-to-face', even though I had strongly stressed my client service history etc. Could anyone help me with what to say? I have an MA, am CIPD qualified, have another professional qualification, and run my own part-time business!

No idea but around 90 applications is normal - think how many mums would want this as an ideal job! I have submitted 3 applications to our local authority for admin roles and have yet to get an interview so I don't know what the magic words are (I had previous jobs in admin roles, have spent my SAHM years on various committees - church/NCT/PTAs etc). Have since found a job at local hospital - not term time but hours suit me and I have back-up for the hols.

Ok, thanks. I will try not to get disheartened by it all!

You are write about the ticking the boxes exercise. Look at the person spec and job description and cover all of those points in your application. Research the school, eg website, OFSTED report, and include stuff from that in covering letter.

Everyone who goes for these jobs will be over qualified. I recently started a school support job, term time only and not very well paid. I have a PGCE and the other person taken on at the same time had a PHD. 90 apps is about right. I got the third job I interviewed for, so it is possible if you keep applying!
