Antenatal Appointments and Work and Flying

Hello

I work away from home for 7 days and then have at least a week off at home. I am expecting my second child and since telling my employer in May that I am expecting they stopped me doing my current job as it is not safe for pregnancy.

Work has recently been in touch and asked me to come to the office to help out with an admin role. The office happens to be overseas. It is perfectly reasonable for them to ask me to work in another role however, they are asking me to change my rostered days of work as they clash with antenatal appointments.

Is it reasonable of my employer to ask me to change my rostered days? They are wanting to change me to 7 days that don't clash with antenatal appointments so that they can maximise the hours that I can work. I understand this from my employers point of view but I am I obliged to do as they ask?

Additionally, should I not be asked if I am prepared to fly as a passenger whilst pregnant? Can my employer just expect me to?

Thank you for any thoughts on the above.

What does your cotract say about where you are baswd? Does it specify a site?

You are entitled to time off to attend antenatal appointments.

I have a UK contract and am based in the UK. The contract just specifies that we have to be within 60 mins drive of a major airport which I do.

My employer has not asked me not to attend the antenatal appointments but they have asked me to change the days that I work so that the appointments fall on days off. Am I obliged to be this flexible?

No you aren't afaik. Asking you to change days so that you don't have to miss work to go to antenatal appointments is tantamount to trying to prevent you from going in work time IMHO. Have you always worked the same days as you have been? For how long?

Forcing you to change base from uk to overseas is not allowed - an emPloyer can't unilaterally change your terms like this. They need to consult and give notice of such changes.

No, my days vary. We receive a roster two months in advance with our published working days.

Re flying if you have a 'normal' no complications pg then you sould be expected to travel as normal . If however you have back pains or obviously any other pg complication that could put you or the baby at risk then you should not be expected to fly. I say back pains as a friend of mine did and was unable to sit for longer than about 30 mins and so she stopped flying - she did do rail and in one instance they put on a car with driver.
I did shorthaul as a passenger up to 32 weeks for work..

If your days vary, they can continue to vary them. They should do a pregnancy risk assessment. If you feel that flying frequently to another country/being away from home would be overly stressful then you must raide it with your employer.

I work 20 mins from home and on mid to late pregnancy the tiredness meant even that was a strain.
