How long does it take to get back to me??

After a stressful time at my last job I left! I dont have a job at the moment and I am looking for work in local gift shops etc. the area I live in has lots and they are very relaxed considering we are in london.

Anyway I decided I was leaving my job last Wednesday, Friday I gave out 5 cvs to local shops. And Monday gave out 6.

Most of those shops have current vacancies, and if not said they will have soon. But how long are they going to take to come back to me?

Should I pop in again to say hi? And remind them I am around? Or does that look desperate?

I am thinking maybe i should just print new cvs and look at new shops?

I need to find something ASAP!

I think you're a bit optimistic tbh, even when people respond to job adverts they often get no response - I know it's rude, but that's the way it is, these days.

I think you'd be better off picking more places to put in your cv, and maybe applying for other types of jobs as well if you really need to find something quickly.

Then perhaps a follow-up visit to shops a couple of weeks after you gave them the cv - certainly not sooner, as they'll just start to feel you are hassling them.

You're doing the right thing, just keep going! I remember when I was looking for a retail job one summer I handed out 48 CVs and got a response from a grand total of 3 places. Luckily one of those 3 responses led to a job but I never even heard back from the other 45 even though they said they had current vacancies. I've heard of other people handing out over 100 CVs.

Don't limit yourself to gift shops and similar - hand out as many CVs as you can, to anything customer-facing. They're all transferable skills.

Final piece of advice from my mum who gets people coming in all the time asking for work - make sure when you go in you look cheerful and engaged, and make eye contact, even if you're exhausted and miserable. Hard I know but it will really mark you out and show your abilities to provide good customer service under fire.

Thanks for the replies, I just thought because they were local shops that they are not likely to advertise and I would have more luck with then then large retail stores.

I gave out more cvs yesterday and will try again today.
