No specific role confirmed for return to work - what are my rights?

I have name changed.

I sort of tag-teamed a role with a colleague while we were on respective periods of maternity leave. She took the role when I went on mat leave (1st time). I then took it back but as a 4-day PT role when she went on mat leave (her leave and my return coordinated well). I went on mat leave for a second time and she again filled the role - also 4-day PT. She signed off with stress for several months and eventually got a position in another company and has now left. I am about to return from maternity but haven't been told officially what role I'm in - someone else will have been doing the one I was doing for several months so it's not guaranteed it will come back to me.

I haven't decided definitely to return and have asked my boss to notify me of my role ASAP (as if I am to resign I need to do it this week). Officially, the team will have positions available of same grade/type of work etc., but I just won't know the specifics.

I feel a little aggrieved about the role anyway - I'm not one to get stressed and to cope with the overwork I just resigned myself to not being able to do the role as well as it was done before (not surprising... it needed 5-days a week and normally working until 6.30-7pm to get it done, but I only had 4-days a week needing to leave by 5.30-6pm to pick up DS1), and I got a low mid-year assessment mark for my efforts - written off as I was about to go on mat leave.

I don't really know what I'm asking - I guess it's along the lines of do I have a case for constructive dismissal with any of this? I don't think so really; I think I've just been slyly shafted and I can't do much about it. DH works for same company in a senior role, so we don't want to make a fuss. In addition to the above, there were major team changes in the year (we now report into a totally new area) and no-one mentioned to me until I asked, having heard second hand by DH. However if he hadn't been working there I wouldn't have heard anything. I just think I've been treated poorly - I think they want me to leave (it doesn't surprise me; I don't have much drive to do the role well as I've really gone off the company dynamic).

How long are you on Mat leave? My understanding is that if it's for more than six months they only have to offer you a role of the same status / pay. Maybe they are planning to do this?

Yes, a year. Like I say I think by the book they have done nothing wrong, just been a bit lax in the way it's been handled.

If I were you I'd ask for clarification about whether your role will be the same as before, and if not how it will differ.
Also ask for official clarification of how your team has changed and how this affects your position, e.g. who would you now report to etc.
All this is perfectly reasonable to request I think and, to be honest, no more than you should already have
