does anyone know of a site that calculates your mileage - community nurses/midwives???

I work in the community and am catching up on my mileage (I'm paid 44p per mile so it's well worth it). I didn't do what I should have and turn my mileometer or whatever it's called on at the beginning of every day then write it down at the end. What I now have is a list of multiple postcodes that I visited on each day, and I need to know how long the journey was. I've tried the AA and RAC websites but they only allow you to put in a couple of via points, and on some days I have visited 10 houses. If anyone knows a quick way of doing this it would save me a lot of time and make me a lot of money - I've got 6 months' worth to do! thx

sorry, I meant to put this is chat, not sure how it ended up in employment issues. the only issue here is how disorganised I am. mnhq feel free to move it.

haven't found a site that does this sorry but just a comment, our Trust only allows us to claim back up to 3 months of travel, will yours let you have 6?

beachyhead · 09/07/2012 18:27

You could try 'map my run' I know you didn't run it, but might work on numerous points..

whatinthewhatnow · 09/07/2012 18:32

freedom, yes, up to 6 months at my trust and actually the first 2 months of it I submitted ages ago but were never paid, so hopefully they'll fork out. thx beachy, I'll try it.

Six months?? You poor thing :(, I used AA but did one house to the next iyswim to work it out but that was only for a few weeks. Good luck.

EmptyCrispPackets · 09/07/2012 18:36

I just write down my postcodes and then at the end if that day do a total mileage, have never been questioned.

We have to do ours monthly, you'll be having a nice little wedge in forthcoming wages Smile

whatinthewhatnow · 09/07/2012 18:40

our band 8 checks ours herself, she picks them at random. [rolls eyes at nhs managers with too much time on their hands]

No idea on a site other than putting in postcodes between each address, but just to say I'm just as disorganised and don't do this as I go along as I should, but I do always do it at the end of each month. That takes ages, so i don't envy you! One word of advice, if your trust is like ours, photocopy them before you submit them if you don't want to repeat the exercise!

PenguinFeet1 · 10/07/2012 00:57

Google maps has a "get directions" option but no idea how many via points you can put in.

NoOnePutsBabyInTheCorner · 10/07/2012 01:06

I could be wrong but if you put the postcodes into a satnav it tell you how many miles between them.

six months equals a lot of postcodes. good luck

whatinthewhatnow · 10/07/2012 11:34

thanks, i didn't even think of trying the satnav. ours is totally crap but it might just work. i'll be up all night doing this.

I use google and add them together. That allows a couple of spots so A-B-C-D then D-E-F-G and so on

shrinkingnora · 10/07/2012 11:43

There are online things that allow for multiple drop points used for logistics (keep meaning to investigate for work purposes) eg for delivery drivers planning their routes. DH says there are free ones.

This is totally unhelpful, but your Trust needs to get the whizzy mileage software we have - you just put in all the postcodes and it adds it all up for you, deducts your work to home mileage if needed and then mails it off to your manager for approval and then on to payroll. It takes me about 15 minutes to three months worth. Good luck with your six months!
