Working Life -A new direction

I have reached a stage in my 'career' where I know I need a change. I have 2 young children and work in a full-time demanding job that has just got a lot more demanding since a restructure meant the loss of 2 team members and the workload remained the same. I no longer have a sense of achievement or job satisfaction and I'm struggling to keep up with the new demands of the job. This is actually affecting my confidence as I feel like I'm failing. I used to like the challenge of juggling work/life because I felt rewarded by what I did and actually enjoyed it. I'm looking for a change, know I need a wage because of financial commitments but need careers advice to find a job that will use my skills. Being idealistic, I'd now like to work part-time. Any advice from someone who's been through a similar experience? I feel enormously stressed by work so know I need to make a serious change.

The national Careers website is a good starting point quite interesting. I got like you and changed career but it was a real mistake I should have stayed in the carrer but moved elsewhere The career was failing because I wa sin the wrong place not the wrong career
Also the economy at the moment is bad so difficult. And it is horrible having to start at entry level in anew thing when you are already established in the first career

Do you have the opportunity to access coaching where you are either through work or privately? Work coaching can really help you focus on what's important to you & how you can achieve the things that are most important whilst being realistic about the consequences of change.

Thanks for the advice above. I've taken a look at the national careers website and also heeded your advice about changing professions. I like the sound of work coaching so I'm going to do some digging today as my husband and I are going round and round in circleson this one and I feel independent advice would help. Here's hoping for a positive outcome. x

I think it is good to take advice frompeople who know you and what makes you tick I went to careers advisors and they gave me the wrong advice as they did not know me And they were no good on the job market so it was a waste of time as there were no jobs here to fit my skills !!!

Oh another thing I learned is that nowadays there is not much of the starting in a firm and working your way up kind of thing like in the past.It all seems to revolve around doing courses etc and getting in that way Having a degree in th area they want is almost essential now.
To prove this I registerd wth some agencies and have been flooded with requests to do courses for which you have to pay
Also have a look at your local colleges etc They run courses in things that local employers want so you can see the job market that way
