What do you think of this idea?

I am totally fed up with my current job, previous thread here that didn't do very well!

i thinkI need to be more proactive about doing something for myself and think that I would really enjoy working in either event management of some sort or something within the fitness industry.

Do you think it would be a good idea to find local companies that might have vacancies available and introduce myself? I'm not sure how I would approach this at the moment so any ideas greatfully received but I'm thinking it might be best for me to approach them for finance vacancies (in the first instance as that is what I currently do - anmongst a whole range of other things!) and explain that i am extreamly versatile and could help in all manner of areas?

Or do you think it's the sort of thing that goes straight in the bin?

What about charity fundraising? You need to be numerate (which I guess you are) and also combines events work.

However it is sometimes difficult to get into without any experience. Perhaps you could take a 6 month period (while you are working in your current job) and run a couple of event for a charity that you are interested in - so you have real experience that you can demonstrate. And I don't mean just help out at the PTA, really take charge of something - create a fundraising campaign, involve people, demonstrate your organisational skills and your fundraising results.

The only ?? I have is that if you want to be involved in 'events' (of any sorts) then they tend to be pretty antisocial hours - don't know how that would fit with your family commitments.

Yes I have often wondered about that and it's what's stopped me actually making the move. Anything I think I could do / enjoy seems to be evenings and weekends which I'm not keen on to be honest. I did think though that seeing as I'm currently working in finance I could move ober in a more finance / office admin / hr role, most of these event management companies seem to be small so I'm wondering if any of them need a "girl friday" that can do a multitude of tasks.

There is a cahrity near to me that i would absolutly love to work for - it's a terminal childrens charity but they are well known for being difficult to get into as they are quite high profile. Plus adverts I have seen for them in the past the salary is extreamly low.
