Fixed term, ongoing contracts.

I am interviewing for a job that operates on a fixed term, yearly basis. The employer explained to me that this is becoming extremely common in this particular industry and is nothing to worry about.

Should I be offered the job, I will accept it, regardless of the answer I get here, but I'm curious. How does this work with maternity pay? From what I understand, you have to have been with a place of work for more than six months to qualify for maternity leave/pay, although I could be well off the mark here. If it is true, though, would that six months be reset at the end of every year on the fixed term contract?

It wouldn't be reset, no. The important thing is always how long you have been continuously employed. Whether it's lots of short contracts one after another or one open-ended permanent contract makes no difference

Thanks flowery as I said, I would have taken the job anyway, but if it was going to 'reset' it wouldn't have been a long term thing, I'd have taken it and kept an eye out for something else.

Fingers crossed I get the job now Grin
