Re-training as a teacher

Does anyone have any tips or advice for re-training? I have over 12 years of office experience but want a different kind of career now - more stimulating and rewarding hopefully... I do not know what age range to focus on but hope to do the GTP so I am paid whilst training (I already have a Business degree and diploma in Law so can fast track in principle). Help gratefully received :)

Do you want to do primary or secondary?

You might struggle with primary as you don't hold a qualification in a National Curriculum subject but should be ok for secondary.

I'd look at the TES website - things are very up in the air at the moment. The edication review means that with the creation of the E.Bacc (although this does seem to be taking a back seat ATM) and saying that subjects like business studies are worth just 1 GCSE means that jobs are not as plentiful in some subjects as they might be as GCSE numbers reduce.

Think about where you want to work. Can you move? How far are you prepared to travel? Then look to see if those schools teach business studies - if they don't you need to rethink.

You will need classroom work experience. Get thee to a school, and try to visit 2 different types of schools.

I love my job, teaching is awesome, but you need to know the market you're getting into.

I did the reverse to you and the office is certainly boring though I would ask what sort of office you work in.If you are in a non-autonomous office role then teaching would give you freedom Primary would be a battle with your degree subjects. FE is a possibility though the full-time contracts are rare but if you do not want f/time you could approach your local FE : I think they may let you teach and train at the same time. With secondary you need to be prepared for the discipline side of things Business studies is certainly a growth area What about teaching at a University ? The Tes is a good place to start
