part time to full time? mum guilt trip dilemma

Am currently working 3 days a week - long hours, long commute, took a huge pay cut after mat leave to be able to do part time and most of it going on childminding fees. Have just been offered full time role locally 10 mins from home in a private school - its an admin role 9-5.30, easter, xmas, half term all off but have to work 4-5 hours a day during summer hols. Other perks aswell. Haven't decided what to do yet. My DD is 2.3 months old and am worried that I will miss out during those 2 extra days I'd be working as she's so young. On the plus side I have a brilliant childminder and I'd be able to drop and collect her every day and never miss a bedtime. My current p/t job stinks - redundancies happening everywhere, bad atmosphere and very very family unfriendly (was told I had work from home on numerous occasions where DD was ill even though I couldn't.......mop up sick and do international conference calls at the same time?????...hmmm). The extra money will be a massive help with paying bills, current huge overdraft etc but am worried still the same as they're not this young forever, though long term when DD goes to school (albeit probably not the same private one - probably a local good state school), it could work out quite well and I'd be able to be with her in most of the hols. What would you do?

Sorry - she's 2.3 years old (not 2.3 months) - bad typing!

I would take it - you could prove yourself and then see if you could drop a day after a few months - and anyway sounds like the total time you will be with your DD would be similar or slightly more

Take it, she's 2.3 and will be doing loads of fun stuff with the CM and have you every evening and less stressed and knackered to boot.

Take it. When she gets to school age, you will be glad of having the majority of the holidays off. Public school holidays are usually longer than state school ones too Smile

I'll bet there is a substantial staff discount on the school fees too Wink

Thanks! Going to read the fine print first then decide - would love a new challenge after so long in current crappy job. Don't think there's any subsidy for a school place for DD but will see - its really selective, mind you....DD is v bright for her age........at least, that's what I think!
