That's it really. I'd really like some advice in what to do. I'm stumped. Obviously I'm way out of the loop and i just don't know how to get back in. Has anyone out there managed to get back into teaching after such a long time away? I was a primary school teacher btw.

A return to teaching course. See tda.gov.uk

Try and do some volunteer work at your local school too. I graduated in 2000 and even now (12 years later) so much has changed - especially the OFSTED inspections! They have changed at least FOUR times since I graduated!

Also buy TES to ensure you are fully up to date with current thinking, although that's changing too! I was trained in the Literacy and Numeracy Strategy era when 15 minute word and sentence level work meant something. Then we went to being 'creative' and schools started changing to a creative curriculum with 'Learning through Play' being popular in KS1 and now there is talk of going 'back' to the old school of teaching!!! Arrrgh!! Since 2000 this is what has been introduced in many schools: Modern foreign languages, which is going to become compulsory in KS2, SEALS and PSHCE! The content has increased but our time hasn't!!! Also APP (Assessing Pupil Progress). Just to name a few.

Got to go, Will about to wake. And for the record, I too teach Primary, (Y2 from Sept) and going back to work on 16th July after a 9 month maternity leave!

Thanks willsmum. The schools down here(east sussex) are full to the brim with volunteers! If i were still in London I'm sure it would be a different story. I shall keep trying though! When I left the literacy and numeracy hour was just coming in. I hated it, there were no support materials at all. I was used to doing all my maths and English as part of the topic. There were also no TA's in my day and we were alone with the kids all the time apart from when a dinner lady was assigned for about an hour a week!

Imsosorryalan i have joined that site. I think they have pulled the funding on primary courses, but will ring them to get some advice

Tda don't fund return to teaching courses anymore.
