CRB expense met by applicant?

CuriousMama · 23/06/2012 11:05

If I pay for this myself will I be able to use it for other job applications? I have it already through reading at school but I know that doesn't count.

Pah all this expense!

It is up to the employer whether or not to accept a CRB check carried out for another job. Some will, others will insist on having a fresh check.

I thought the crb thing was calming down to you showing an old one?

CuriousMama · 23/06/2012 14:32

Thanks prh.

Sorry ASilly, didn't understand your post?

I heard that if you already have a crb that should be enough.

CuriousMama · 23/06/2012 14:52

The school have that one though as they paid for it. Or do they just contact the police to see if I've had one done?

I had onefor a school and I got a copy.

Noqontrol · 23/06/2012 14:56

Most jobs usually require a new crb check.

prh47bridge · 23/06/2012 18:32

ASilly - Everyone gets a copy of their disclosure. However, for an enhanced CRB check your employer may be given relevant non-conviction information that is not on the copy sent to you. If a new employer wants to rely on your current disclosure they are required to contact your current employer to check that it is genuine and that there was no additional information.

ASillyPhaseIAmGoingThrough · 23/06/2012 19:28

Ahh, I see now why they want their own now, so every new employee has to to do a crb then nowadays?

ToryLovell · 24/06/2012 11:54

This really annoys me when I see it on adverts. It is usually for relatively low paid work, and expecting applicants to fork out more than a days wage for a new CRB check is taking the mickey.

A decent employer should pay for it.

germyrabbit · 24/06/2012 12:10

agree, i have four done in the last six months! (don't ask)! would really love to just register once! getting applicant to pay for it is dodgy, are they expecting you to be self-employed as well?

Putthatbookdown · 24/06/2012 12:40

The Government must be making a fortune out of all this !! Or whoever..

prh47bridge · 24/06/2012 16:20

Remember that around 20% of all CRB checks are for volunteers. These are free of charge.

In 2010/11 the CRB made a loss of £1.4M, so the government certainly isn't making a fortune.

germyrabbit · 24/06/2012 16:27

i imagine a big part of the loss was down to the vetting and barring fiasco
