Claiming for nursery fees when not working?

My sister has run her own business for the last five years and has a two year old son. However, the business hasn't worked and she's had to give it up. As she's also split from her partner, she's decided to give up work and become a SAHM.

However, she still wants to send her DS to nursery four days a week, and seems to think she will still get benefits to help cover the fees. Is this right? I thought you only got help if you were a working parent, and I can't find any references to this on the government website, only for working parents.

Thanks!

Haha . I should hope not!!! Unless she can get it through a scheme called 2 steps forward but I'm not sure if they have that everywhere. Maybe look on the Internet

Thanks! I didn't think so, she has a tendency to get her wires crossed and I was pretty aghast at the notion!

If she is in a flying start area then the children get 12 1\2 hours a week from the term after they are 2 my area has a dedicated playgroup for this but I know other areas use nursery places. Mine goes and I don't work.

She is in Ipswich. Can't find it on any Flying Start lists or 2 Steps Forward, but that may be what she is thinking of.

I'll keep investigating. Thanks!
