I wondered if any of you are on Folksy and what you think? I've only been on it a short while but my (few) sales have really slowed. I know there is lots of talk on the folksy board about problems with the site re-design. I wonder if there is more I could be doing to improve my shop... folksy.com/shops/littleink
My Etsy sales on the other hand are going great Smile

I think this down to folksy's seo approach, they don't appear on p1 of google for any of the search terms around gifts, handmade etc. Do they do any offline advertising? How are sales for other folksy sellers?

Have a look at madebyhandonline - seems that they are looking for printmakers

I've been on there for nearly 4 years and find sales for me are best at Christmas. Folksy have been working really hard to improve things in recent months.

Your shop looks great. Generally, I think things like prints are harder to sell on there than more 'traditional' handmade items like bags and fabric things.

Stick with it a bit longer and see how it goes.

Hi Little Ink, I find it totally slow, I never go on and thus my shop languishes, like you my Etsy is booming. Have you tried NOTHS?

Does anybody else find etsy only attracts US buyers? Its a major problem for me as I paint traditional barge ware in enamel on metal items which are heavy and bulky. My shop got loads of attention and "favouriting" but it only translated to two sales at Xmas because whos going to pay to ship a watering can to America even I'd it is gorgeous. I have to set my prices high as what I do is very painstaking and skilled which dosent help. I've pretty much given up on it now. Might give folksy a try.

I've been on Folksy since last October and had a few sales around Christmas but it was still much slower than I'd expect for that time of year. Lots of people in the forums moaning about the same thing. I'm on maternity leave at the mo so have just let everything de list. Will get around to relisting it at some point but I don't expect much from it without the constant promotion it seems to need. I'm going to give Etsy a go when I get chance as well.

I've found Folksy to be a poor man's Etsy. Had one sale in the past six months, compared to 49 sales on Etsy. Yes, it's much more US based, but you can specify that you ship only to the UK. You just get more footfall with Etsy, I just have the Folksy shop open to increase my "surface area" on the web!

Hiya, i have a folksy shop but took everything off to relaunch as nothing was moving. NEED to go back and give it a good shake up. Avoided ETSY as my insurance doesnt cover the U.S as it's only a basic crafters policy. Not sure if it's worth the time it takes to mess around.

I have shops on both Etsy and Folksy as well as my own website.

I have more sales on Etsy as I find their site far easier to use and I love the stats page so I probably spend more time on there updating and tinkering about.
My sales on Etsy are worldwide and I make sure the listings have postage charges to cover this. I also have several overseas repeat buyers.

I have just moved over to a Folksy 'plus' account so will see how that goes.
All my folksy sales have only been to the UK ( I have also had 3 non payers on folksy - but thats just annoying rather than a loss).

NOTHS charges about £700 joining fee, so that would put me off - how many sales would you need to do to recoup that outlay?

WowThankYou works on the same principal as NOTHS but charges about £35 joining fee.

I have seen a big rise in my sales by prudent networking and stealth advertising.

It all takes time and effort but the bumper months are definately Oct, Nov and Dec - and Jan when I have a sale to sort my stock out.
