How many keeping in touch days do we get? Can you use them as 2 half days? What can they be used for?

I'm going back to work in January but I'm moving classes (not through choice but tat's a whole other thread:( ). I need to pack up all my resources, folders etc to make room for the teacher who will be in my room in September and move it. I don't yet know where it's going to as the teacher I'm replacing/covering will still be there with all her stuff till Xmas. My question is, if I have to go and do this whilst still on leave can I claim it as a 'keeping in touch' day and get paid for givving up my time?

I don't know about primary teachers specifically, but the rules on KIT days are:
you can work up to 10 KIT days prior to returning to work. You don't have to do them, and your work doestn't have to let you work them - they are by mutual agreement.
Your employer doesn't have to pay you for them, and if they do, any payment can be deducted from SMP for the week in which you do them. Employer can pay them in addition to SMP though - it's up to them and to be agreed between you.
If you work half a day, it is still classed as 1 of the KIT days (if you work only 1 hour, this is still classed as 1 of the KIT days).

I can't imagine that there are different requirements for primary teachers, and basically it's all up for discussion between you & your employer.
