Company car and freelance mileage

Tried to google the answer to this but no joy:

I have a company car. Just recently I have started to do freelance work unrelated to my main part time job and was wondering what mileage rate to claim - 15p company car rate which I claim from my employer or 45p standard rate.

does your company allow you to use their car for other earned work? - I suspect you may be driving uninsured

It's insured for social, business and commuting. Will that not cover every eventuality?

Invoice the client for as much as you can agree, claim 45p against tax. But I agree, it is likely that the terms of the company car insurance exclude business use other than for the employer's business. In practice this is unlikely to mean that either you or the company are uninsured, but does mean that if you have an accident or the car is stolen whilst on a business trip etc. the insurer is going to try and recover every penny from you.

Ah, the joys of trying to make an honest living....

Mama you are welcome to make an honest living, but do not incur wear and tear on somebody else's car to do it.
It is the equivalent of a Tesco driver using his van to deliver for Asda on the side.
