Promotion pop during mat leave

Hi,

I have been on mat leave since January. My manager left his role three months ago and the company are only now filling it. They sent an email about it to my work email address. I coly found out today, ( applications closed yesterday) as a colleague forwarded it to me.

I don't have access to my email or the internal application system as I stupidly changed my password and promptly forgot it about three months ago. Anyway I eouldn't be checking emails from work at the minute.

I emailed my new manager, who I've had no contact with since my old one left, askngf they could extend the deadline. Well that just prompted a bollocking for my colleague who sent it n to me.

I said nmy email that I would like a chance to apply via VcV and covering letter, or else the time to organise child care so I can go not the office, log n and apply? This is reasonable, is it not?

Also, if I did get it, would I still be able to use all my maternity leave?

Sorry it's so LNG. Thanks for any replies

I think they have to consider your application equally but they don't have to do anything extra about informing you of the vacancy, especially as they did email you but you didn't check it. I think it's reasonable to ask if you can apply now but I don't think they have to change their deadline for you.

Thanks for the reply HappyCamel.

Do many people access work emails during maternity leave then? It wouldn't be top of my list tbh.

Oh well I'll just wait and see

I did but then I was being TUPEd and wanted to keep an eye on things. I think the point is that legally, if you had access to the information but chose not to look, you can't claim discrimination. I think it's reasonable for you to ask for an extension as they couldn't possibly have appointed anyone yet.

Fair enough, thanks for that HappyCamel
