Part time or full time?

I have a 10month old and I'm going back to full time teaching in September.

I want to go down to part time eventually. What has worked for other people?

I teach ks1.

I would like to work part time so I could have more time with little one.

When I had DS1 I went back to teaching full time just before the summer holidays so I got the summer holiday pay then went to 2 days a week. I decided that I wanted to enjoy DS1 (and now 2 and 3) whilst they were little. I now work just 1 day a week and do supply. You have to find a supportive school though as I know a few people who have been refused part time or been offered hours they did not want. I was incredibly lucky to have a flexible and understanding head teacher. I find doing the one day a week with supply work fantastic as I am so busy now DS1 is at school. I want to see the assemblies, go on school trips, help in class, see sports day, etc and I know teachers often can't get time off to do these things. On the other hand I have just been chatting to a collegue who went back full time after her DD1 and is having a DD2 and is going back full time again. You have to decide if you can afford it and what you really want. I personally would rather eat 'value' food and be part of my children's early years but other people need that adult conversation and to feel like a professional again.
