Do you think I'd lose my redundancy entitlement if I turned down this job?

I currently work 2 days / 3 days over 2 weeks. Always the same days so it works out to be 2.5 days averaged out per week.

I am at a senior level in a legal job 12 years qualification and obviously part time.

If my employer makes my role redundant and offers me either a similar role which is full time and involves some extra stuff in evenings to meet clients etc I presume I would be able to refuse as my part time role is moving to a full time role.

If though they offer me a job which is again part time but a level way below mine and suitable for a 5 year qualified with a third off my current salary, takes away my bonus prospect and a small profit share arrangement I have and which commits me to 3 days every week rather than 2.5 which also means I would need more childcare than I currently do would I be able to refuse this ?

The thing is that in case scenario no 2 the reality is that the work I would do will not be that dissimilar....it's just that they've realised they can get someone cheaper to do it. They want to keep me there as obviously they then get my experience and also knowledge of current clients but would get me cheaper.

I don't want the role as with childcare and paycut I'll be on about £300 per month....the stress will be worse as the dept is smaller and work pretty much the same so DH and I have agreed that I'll leave...

I only get stat redundancy but don't want to lose out if thye are arguing the toss. They want us to work notice which is fine with me.

what is your view ? I know the 'standard wording' so to speak so wanted a view based on the facts really if you have one !
thanks.

Are you in a union?

If your role is genuinely redundant then they shouldn't be hiring anybody to do it for less money, least of all you.

no union.....
For the sake of paying less for the same role it is probably convenient to say my role is redundant but for the sake of trying it on not to pay me no doubt they'll argue its a suitable alternative !

It's not a reasonable alter alternative it is vastly different - so no, you don't have to accept it and no, declining it will not lose you a redundancy payment.

It's a difficult one - what is reasonable/suitable for one set of circumstances is. It for another. If they are saying you will have to change your hours and take all the hitof a pay reduction in one go, then it prob isn't suitable. If they are giving you 3 months to sort Childcare and staging down a pay cut it may not be. Not very helpful, I know.
