Getting to work during the Olympics...

I work just outside London, however my train journey is such that I have to travel via London Bridge. I am the only person in my office who does this particular journey, all others who come in travel from West London via Victoria. Clapham Junction etc.

I have previously asked re working from home last yr when we last had snow - response was that I couldnt have a networked laptop for security reasons plus I wouldn't be able to supervise my team. Our firm has other offices, but the only other one closer to me is at London Bridge and all staff there are working remotely during the Olympics or at other offices. And even if I could work there (unlikely) there would still be the supervision issue.

I've now been asked about 4 times re my Olympic travel arrangements, whether there is an alternative route (there isnt as I dont drive), etc but no-ones actually come back to me. I'm conscious its less than 2 months off now, and not quite sure what's going to happen...does anyone else have any experience of this? what approach are other employers taking?

What worries me is if they either force me to take the whole period as annual leave, or if as predicted my journey time to/from work work doubles, they expect me to somehow make up the time.

My DH's company has been working closely with the organisers and DH and colleagues have been advised to work from home or take annual leave.

DH plans to do a bit of both.

That makes sense - I'd be prepared to take some time as AL. I don't have enough holiday to take it all though, and I've previously been told I'm not allowed to work from home.

We've been told to discuss whether we can work from home and I'm hoping to do that as much as possible as I come in on the Thameslink line which is expected to be badly affected (it's bad enough when the Olympics aren't on). Given that the Olympics are on for the best part of a month though I am expecting to have to come in to the office at least part of the time and probably make up any time wasted travelling. Not looking forward to it at all.
