format contract - ask for holiday time?

Hi all

I am about to agree to a formal contract working on a mag - yay! But I was wondering now I will be working a lot more, I can ask (and maybe add to the contract ?) specific holiday time? I would ideally like two weeks during August, a week at Easter and a week during a half term at some point. Otherwise I would be working three days a week, around 20 hours a day. Is it normal to ask for holiday time, or is it taking the piss? It is with a UK company BTW (tho a US boss). TIA for any advice! :)

If you are self employed can you not take your holiday when you want
but to me that sounds like employment - in which case they should be giving you paid holiday
btw hope its 20 hours a week not a day!

If you are self employed, I think it is unlikely they'll pay for holiday. With a retained client of mine I negociated a higher rate to cover the fact I won't be paid hols and sick. And I suggested that I won't work x number of days over the period - to set the expectation that I won't work solidly for the period of the contract.

Sorry, having re-read your post not sure you were asking about pay....

But yes, I am sure it is fine to ask about holiday/not working. Better to do it before you start.

Congrats on securing the contract.

Thanks! Yes, I am assuming it is unpaid.

Previously I have been working fewer hours so it hasn't mattered and this is (hopefully) an ongoing thing so I would like to set things in place before (and make sure I fit around school hols etc).
