How to work from home?

DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 13:38

Is there any way of working from home around looking after under school age children and school age children which does not involve special skills, selling products or an initial investment?

Hi, I work from home, have 2 dd's (age 2 and 4). If you want some info on what I do CAT me with your details and maybe we could have a chat.

DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 13:53

Does what you do fit my criteria? Oh and it can't be arty either!

I can't CAT anymore but I would be interested to hear what you do. You can email me direct on [email protected]

Thanks.

Yes it does fit in with your criteria. We do have products but I wouldn't really call it selling.
I'll email you now.
Cheers

DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 15:10

Thank you for that. I have looked through your website, but I don't think it is for me. I don't really know what I am looking for actually, just clutching at straws maybe!

No worries Dumbledoresgirl, if you change your mind and want to find out more you know where I am.
Best of luck to you and your search

Is childminding under consideration?

DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 20:40

Ugh no. I have done that for the last 10 years (my own children).

Thinking about it, I don't want to sell, I don't want anything which relies on me making contacts with people, I have no particular skills to offer, I don't want to look after children and it has to fit around my own children's needs.

I am asking for the moon aren't I?

Be an exam invigilator, DG

NotQuiteCockney · 20/02/2006 20:44

I think there is some work out there transcribing stuff from tape, and other secretarial sorts of work.

Rhubarb · 20/02/2006 20:44

Are you good with the internet? Could you be an editor for Netmums ? If they don't have a site in your local area, you could do one for them. They give you all the tools and backup. The pay isn't brilliant but you learn new skills to put on your CV and it's worthwhile!

DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 20:50

I would jump at it like a shot Fauve! That is why I am getting so excited for you to do it! I have also thought about being a SATs marker but I know I have missed the boat for this year. Anyone done that? I looked into it for extra money when I was still teaching but realised I wouldn't be able to give it enough time. Well, that is not an issue now.

Rhubarb, I have looked at the Netmums site, but I think my area has an editor. I am a member of Netmums and receive regular local newsletters, so I presume that means my area is catered for?

Fauve · 20/02/2006 20:53

Actually I have seen ads in the local press for invigilators before (I tried to make dh do it when he was unemployed ), and I did think that if I did it for ds' school, at least I would be an experienced one. (I wouldn't know where to start to look for vacancies, though.)

DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 20:54

NQC, transcribing would suit me fine. Do you know of any websites linked to this?

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 20/02/2006 20:56

Fauve, I have never seen anything like that advertised. I didn't even know until tonight that secondary schools hired people in that way (although I think it is great that they do, releasing the teachers to teach). I might look out for it in my local secondary school. The SATs marking job was advertised in the Times Educational Supplement, but then you needed teaching qualifications to do that (goodness knows why!)

NotQuiteCockney · 20/02/2006 21:07

I don't know of any websites, but I do know that at least one mumsnetter (in the past, anyway) ran a transcription service.

DumbledoresGirl · 21/02/2006 11:04

Right, just ruled out SATs marking as they have a surplus of markers at the moment and aren't recruiting any more this year.

Still browsing around trying to think of money making opportunities so if anyone thinks of anything, do post it here.
