Currently I am self employed and work 3-4 days per week, term time only. The money isn't great, but I enjoy my work. Its great working part-time, but we could do with more money coming into the house and I do sometimes wish I had a bit more responsibility (I work in schools and am very much 'in and out', no real work colleagues - don't want to say too much about the exact nature of my job).

I have seen a job advertised locally. It is literally 5 mins down the road from me, a very good school, full time but term-time only, and a managerial position. The salary still isn't great, probably a bit better pro rata than what I get now.

I am torn on what to do. I suppose I think that maybe I should either stick to the easy life for a more years (no politics, part-time etc) or even concentrate on building up my business (difficult in this economic climate in my field).

But part of me thinks I am in my 30s now and do need to establish myself in a more senior role if I want to be earning more money in future.

Is the new job longer hours than you currently work on your current days?

Assuming it isn't going to create childcare headaches then I would go for it. term-time only jobs are pretty rare and it sounds like a great opportunity to start working towards something that makes better use of your abilities.

Would it give you useful experience that could feed into your business once the econmy picks up?

Do you have plans to grow your business, or it is more a case of "I like it and it bring in a bit of cash" sort of thing? If you have the opportunity for a term time job (likes hen's teeth) then YES you should apply.....Apply, then if/when you get offered the position come back and lay it on the line.....Good luck!
