If yes, how did you set up?
What experience/qualifications did you have?
Am thinking of doing this but no idea where to start.

yes I am - have a post graduate degree in the subject I teach - but no teaching qualification as such
demand varies a lot depending on the subject you over and the area you are in -and also time of year -
TES website has a private tutoring forum which is worth a lot
there are also websites you can advertise your services - uktutors is the one I have had the most leads from - that will give you a good idea of what other people in your area are offering and how much for and what qualifications they have
do PM me if you want more info

Thanks so much for the reply. I will definitely have a look at those sites. Helpful to know I don't actually need a teaching qualificationSmile

Yes, I am a home tutor. I teach maths from juniors to A level. I have taught in school (some time ago) and still teach for the LA so I have QTS and a valid CRB check (though no parent has ever asked about either of these). I live in a small village and I put classified ads (approx £20/year each) in the village newsletters of my own village and those within 5 miles. I used to go to tutees houses but quickly found it much better if they came to me - you have to have a good, quiet, uninterrupted room to teach in. I've been doing this for several years now and get about 50% of my pupils by personal recommendation.
HTH and good luck.
