Asking for a payrise before work knows I am pregnant

I work in advertising and I have just asked for a pay rise, I have been there 2 years and haven't even got a cost of living increase.
I am now 12 weeks pregnant and starting to show, so wear baggy tops to work.
Am I better to tell them I am pregnant or wait until after they have agreed to the pay rise? What will give me better rights? I don't want to threaten them in any way but this profession is not well known for being on the side of pregnant women....

I would wait if you can until it is all agreed if you can. I did this and had the bit of paper just incase. I didn't have any issues. Can't comment on the legal side though

Nevercan - did you mean the piece of paper that says your pregnant? or to get the piece of paper than confirms the payrise?
Thanks for answering - your comment confirmed what I was thinking - to wait until it is agreed...

I have the same dilemma. Thing is, I reckon work already know that I am either pregnant or TTCing (for a variety of reasons). In this situation I wonder if I may be best off telling them what they probably know already. This is because if they know but not officially, then they can discriminate but pretend they never knew, whereas if they officially know they will be more cautious about discriminating iyswim?

Having said all that, I haven't told them... really because I'm not 12 weeks yet so it feels a bit odd to tell them, it's not like I have an obvious reason to iyswim.

I would say, don't let your issues at work impact on when you would naturally want to tell your employer.

You have absolutely no guarantee of a pay rise regardless of whether you are pregnant or not - especially with the current job market.

I have just been offered a new role and pay rise and am about as far pregnant as you. I know that they will be v annoyed about it as I have a unique role which will be potentially difficult to get cover for.

In my defence, I didn't know I was pregnant when I decided to go for the new role. I'm sure you have thought about asking for a payrise for a while too, so ask away and just tell them when you're ready.

I was in the same situation two years ago. I secured a decent payrise (my first in three years) and then told them I was pregnant. I'm glad I did it, the money made a difference.

Thank you for all your advice, They still don't know but didn't give me a payrise anyway. They did however say that they would review my salary again in September, so clearly they have no idea. but it shouldn't make a difference anyway.
