Hi,

I go back to work in 3 weeks and DD (11 months) will be going to a childminder.
She currently sleeps until about 8 and always wakes up naturally but i will have to drop her off at 8.10 when im back so will need to get her up around 7ish.

Should i start waking her at 7 now so shes used to being woken up or do i just leave her until the day? She will be at childminders for 2 days for 2 weeks, then 3 days for 2 weeks then 4 days.

Thanks

Hi. I've had this issue too in the past. What I did was start by gradually moving ds's bedtime forward by 5 minutes at a time for a couple of weeks so by the time I needed him to get up earlier, he was waking earlier and more naturally. There is also a type of alarm you can buy which is designed to wake you up more peacefully and over a longer period of time. It plays soft music and lights up gradually.

Oh and another thing...can the childminder do breakfast when your dc gets there, rather than you have to do it at home? That might mean you can just give milk, whack some clothes on and go!

Another tip I've thought of is for a speeded up brekkie - offer whatever you give normally at the table and say it has to be eaten by X time. I don't know how you feel about your dd and food in the car (let's just say my standards slipped pretty quickly!) but you could offer her a bowl of dry cereal like Cheerios or raisins etc, (in one of those little pots you can put your fingers into but they don't fall out, if you want to avoid the mess) so at least you know she has got a little something in her before you drop her off.
