**Nurses** Interview on Thursday, any hot topics I need to look at?

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 08/05/2012 19:57

Just picked up emails to see that I have been called for an interview on Thursday morning.

It's only for the bank, working in theatres, but I've been out of work for the last year, since we moved house. Before that, I was working very, very part time in a Day Surgery Theatre, so not really unto speed IYSWIM.

I have been a theatre nurse since 1989, so do have lots of experience, just wanted to know what the Hot Topics are, in nursing as a whole.

Thank you :)

Good luck. Not a theatre nurse, am community based but the big thing for us at the moment is all the NHS changes, with GP consortia being responsible for funding - I guess there may be something similar for hospital based care? Also maybe look at the nursing and midwifery roadmap (can't remember the exact title) but its a DH document which discusses the difference nurses and midwives can make to the NHS.

Good luck for the interview!

Thanks Tea :)

Have just spoken to a friend who is a theatre manager and got some ideas from her, have had to take my mind off it by organising a drinks party on Saturday night, just spent far too long on the Majestic website rather than the NMC! Blush

whistleblowing is another hot topic that may come up

Northernlurker · 08/05/2012 22:36

this may be useful to read up on if you haven't already heard about it. Patient safety is (quite rightly) a massive issue.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 09/05/2012 08:43

Thanks, gg and northern, they are both things I hadn't thought of, will read up on both today.

Now, what to wear?

OP posts:
ggirl · 09/05/2012 09:19

black smart trousers or skirt and nice blouse?

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 09/05/2012 10:57

Am just about to move the buttons on a much cherished suit, I bought it back in the very early 90's when I was in Jersey, on a whack of a wage, pre children, and could spend several hundred on a dress or bag! Blush

I luckily kept all of my "good stuff", and this black suit is back in fashion again, just a bit too big :), I'm wearing it buttoned up, with tan ballerinas and a tan and black scarf, tied high and kind of down the front of the jacket, and tan bag, will that do?

Sounds perfect! Good luck with the interview...I am a bank community nurse and being on the bank is great. Hve been asked to go on a contract a few times as I work 3-4 days a week for same team. But the freedom of bank nursing is what I need atm and they also can't rope you in for loads of shite unless you say yes!

Generally in the nhs you might get asked about
reflective practice
'working with dignity' or other versions of anti-discriminatory practice, inclusivity, equality etc etc
confidentiality/information governance

good luck!

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 09/05/2012 12:17

Oh and infection control, esp. hand hygiene regimes.

AhsokaTano · 09/05/2012 12:36

I'm an ODP who also scrubs and recovers, not a nurse but recent topics that have formed part of our CPD are the WHO Safe Surgery Saves Lives checklist, enhanced recovery, and patient dignity/ holistic care.

Good luck at the interview

Northernlurker · 09/05/2012 13:16

'reflective practice' aka 'bugger, won't do that again' according to one of the nurses I work with Grin

ninjanurse · 09/05/2012 13:18

Questions about the CQC came up up in my last nursing interview.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 09/05/2012 15:14

Yay! You are all total stars, lots of great ideas here, I am just having a quick 5 minute break from the DofH website, before I go to collect DD's from school.

One thing I know i will be asked about is how I keep myself updated, after a year out, and only working 7 hours a week for the last 4 years! Of course I am a frequent visitor to the NMC / RCN / NHS websites Wink, but what else can I fib about, talk earnestly about?

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

NICE website..they send out regular newsletters which you obviously read don't you? Wink

I actually am sad enough to get these

iliketea · 09/05/2012 15:37

Nursing times and nursing standard websites? If you happen to be member of the rcn, you can access their journal articles for free, and there is often cpd stuff in there - can you tell.them yoou do that?

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 10/05/2012 13:44

Thank you for all your help, got it, yay!

Talked about CPD, conflict resolution, confidentiality, and clinical governance.

So thank you again, you all pointed me in the right direction, only thing bothering me now is "being the new girl" again :(
